I loved this one I love how she weaves the corrupt people of San Francisco government into the tale of a young woman who loses her parents because of the greed that runs rampant among the city The story of Sara Beth seeking justice to wipe her father's name clean only adds to the mystery that surrounds their death Her stubborness and fierce determination is what sets her apart from most women and the Dr Cole is drawn to that but at the same time thinks she needs someone who can provide better for her It isn't until he almost loses her that he realizes that he is the best one to take care of her and her brothers and that God brought them together for a reason It was a great story

35 stars This novel set in 1850s San Francisco isn't earth shattering but it's a nice comfort read One thing that the author does which really stand out is her depiction of San Francisco During the time period of this novel the city was essentially ruledor terrorized depending on your perspective by strongmen and Hansen brings that unsettling political climate to vivid life in this bookSara Beth Reese loses both her mother and her beloved stepfather in a violent assassination ordered by one of the corrupt businessmen of the town With an eually corrupt sheriff driving her from home she and her younger siblings take refuge in a local orphanage Though Sara Beth is vulnerable and has almost nowhere to turn she does find one allyA local doctor Cole Hayward rescues Sara Beth early on in the story and she tries to discover what happened to her parents and to bring perpetrators to justice he is her protector and champion This part of the story really shone By contrast the romance seemed plausible but also seemed to spring out of nowhere As a reader it seemed like the romance was just expected and it was hard for me to really believe strongly in it one way or the other Still this novel features an interesting setting and it's a cut above the average

This was ok written I didn't like the third person view with repeated comments about the story several times The story line itself was very interesting The only thing that kept distracting me was the way the story was told It was told instead of by showing I feel this could have been updated to change the way it was presented There was some stuff going on in the background that kept the story interesting between the young doctor and the lady I'm glad to see they finally woke up to their love for one another before things happened to take them away from each other

Sara Beth Reese finds herself the sole caretaker of her younger brothers upon the death of her parents Locked out of her home by the town judge and the sheriff Sara Beth seeks refuge in the local orphanage She knows that there is something suspicious surrounding their deaths and vows to see justice done Her impulsiveness and strong willed determination is like a magnet to Dr Taylor Hayward who finds himself being and drawn to her Together they navigate their way through the seedy corruption that has the gold mining town of San Francisco in its gripOkay I don’t know where the name “Cole” comes from I’ve re read the hero’s name several times looked throughout the book for it and it has always been Taylor Hayward Maybe its been Taylor Cole Hayward or Cole Taylor Hayward in Ms Hansen’s earlier drafts but in this story the young doctor is referred to as TaylorAside from that gaffe you can tell that there has been some considerable research into the gold mining and the historical accuracies for the backdrop of the story The emotional roller coaster that Taylor and Sara Beth experience is nothing new for two people getting together I was a little annoyed with Sara Beth and her “determination” at times There’s being strong and then there’s being silly Then there was her brother Luke Young dumb and rebellious he provided enough fodder for me to want to throw the bookThis is not to say that I didn’t like it I did and would probably read from Ms Hansen With plenty of action enough drama and suspense sprinkled with some prayer and combined with colorful secondary characters The Doctor’s Newfound Family is perfect for lazy Sunday afternoon reading

This is a very enjoyable suspenseful book that is also a pretty uick read because you won't want to put it down It had enough action in it to make me want to keep reading too late into the evening yet the characters were well developed enough that I really cared what happened to them Corruption in San Francisco politics murder romance enduring hardship and being willing to risk a great deal in order to rescue a loved one are all woven together to make an interesting plot You can't help but admire the strength of Sarah Beth Reese as she is forced to grow up very uickly when horrible circumstances change her life and that of her brothers Valerie Hansen has uite a talent for writing realistic historical fiction

Sara Beth becomes the lone caretaker of her younger brothers after the suspicious death of her parents She meets Dr Taylor Hayward upon learning of their deaths This begins a tale of mild suspense and way too perfect orphans I wanted to like this book as I want to like most of the Christian fiction I read Unfortunately so much of it is poorly written and in need of a good editor Did anyone else notice that Dr Taylor Hayward is named as Dr Cole Hayward on back blurb? If the name isn't even right between the back cover and the internal story then I guess I shouldn't expect the best
